Pay-as-You-Throw in the News

Pay-as-you-throw has been getting some nice press coverage recently, with several news outlets looking at PAYT’s success in reducing waste, increasing recycling, and saving towns and cities money. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Worcester Telegram & Gazette:
A front-page article examined the success of Worcester’s pay-as-you-throw program on its twentieth anniversary: more than $10 million saved; 400,000 tons of trash diverted; and 200,000 tons of additional recycling. The city’s outgoing Commissioner of Public Works, Bob Moylan, told the paper: “If communities are serious about recycling, they will embrace pay-as-you-throw. It takes political courage, but it’s proven to be effective.”

That’s a lot of good news! We’re looking forward to seeing more of it in the weeks and months to come.
