Cal Cunningham serves as WasteZero’s in-house expert resource on legal affairs, writing and standardizing contracts, negotiating with municipalities and vendors, and advising the firm on other legal issues as they arise. Cunningham also supports the firm’s outreach to municipal and state leaders in coordination with the sales teams.
Cunningham’s legal experience includes practice in a number of fields related to private and government contracts. His work in the public sector includes service in the North Carolina Senate, as a trustee of the Community College of Davidson and Davie Counties, and as a public member of the North Carolina Banking Commission. In 2010 he ran for the United States Senate. Cunningham serves as a Major in the US Army Reserve and is a veteran of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. He has been recognized for his military service with awards that include the Bronze Star Medal.
Cunningham earned a BA cum laude in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master’s in Public Policy and Public Administration from the London School of Economics, and a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
