Bryla was previously the President of the Hefty Business Unit and Head of Sustainability for Reynolds Consumer Products, Inc. in Lake Forest, IL. He served as a General Manager reporting to the CEO and was responsible for a $1 billion business unit with four manufacturing facilities, 1,500 employees, capital budget of $40 million, and EBITDA delivery of $180+ million. His business portfolio included Waste Bag and Slider Bag products under the Hefty brand and various store brands. Key accomplishments included:
- Developed and executed new business strategy for Hefty Waste bags that resulted in retail sales growth of $150+ million
- Integrated and completely renovated Pennsylvania plant to deliver best in class cost structure while reducing employee turnover
- Shifted business portfolio from transactional to sustainable by growing the Hefty business 50% while shedding low-margin private label business
Prior to serving as its President, Bryla was Chief Marketing Officer of Hefty, where he had P&L responsibility for five matrixed business units: Cooking, Tableware, Waste & Storage, International & Bakeware, and managed brands and categories including: Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil, Parchment Paper, Slow Cooker Liners, Hefty Waste, Storage, Disposable Plates and Party Cups. He was responsible for strategy, business plan development and execution, consumer and trade promotion planning, M&A activity, and key account planning. In this role, he led multiple successful initiatives, including:
- Initiated repositioning of Reynolds Wrap that reversed a nine-year category decline
- Developed product innovation pipeline that has resulted in the maintaining 100% of Store Brand waste bag business at #1 customer
Bryla previously served as VP and Business Manager, Tableware, of Hefty Consumer Products at Pactiv Corporation before it was acquired by Reynolds. There, he was directly responsible for an 11-person business team with $750 million P&L delivering $130 million in EBITDA. His responsibilities also included strategic planning, developing and executing all elements of the annual operating plan including pricing and spending, as well as calling on key customers, including: Walmart, Sam’s Costco, Kroger, Safeway and others. He exceeded revenue and EBITDA goals in four of his last five years in this role.
Prior to his career with Hefty and Reynolds, Bryla was a Director at Zyman Group, LLC, a management consultancy focused on marketing. He also gained experience earlier as VP for Matchbox brand at Mattel, Inc., as a Director of Marketing at General Mills, and as co-owner of James Page Brewing Company.
Bryla earned a BA from Michigan State and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame, and has served as Adjunct Faculty for multiple Marketing courses at University of Minnesota and Northwestern University. He serves on the Board of Boys Hope Girls Hope (non-profit) and loves snowboarding, racquet sports and disc golf.
